Great Excursions is ready for predicted surge in domestic travel

February 23, 2009

MEDIA RELEASE

REGINA, February 23, 2009 – Canada’s leading provider of authentic holiday experiences is inviting consumers to make the best of the recession by taking another look at the tourism offerings here at home this summer.

“Our tourism partners in Saskatchewan and elsewhere in Canada are preparing to welcome the World for the 2010 Olympics and they have been working hard to hone their Canadian travel offerings,” said Claude-Jean Harel, Founder and Manager of Great Excursions. “Why not become re-acquainted with our country by taking our holidays at home at a time when the recession brings added uncertainty about the economy.”

For 2009, Great Excursions is offering its most extensive selection of distinctively Canadian holidays yet. All of these experiences have been selected for their character of authenticity, Harel notes:

“Our partners all share our commitment to internationally recognized principles of social, economic and environmental responsibility. In most cases, we use local suppliers who provide jobs and generate revenue for Canadian communities that are particularly hard hit by the recession. When fewer travellers come, the very fabric of these often rural communities is at risk.”

While Canadian government agencies have recently allocated fresh marketing dollars to promoting domestic travel, it often tends to be tour operators and destination management companies like Great Excursions that generate sales and deliver consumers for many tourism businesses that are active in the travel trade.

“We invest in marketing campaigns, in partnership with destination marketing organizations, so that the industry can reap the reward from our investment of time and resources,” explains Harel. “As Canada seeks to reposition itself as a destination worthy of discovery for the world, we hope we can also lure Canadians into choosing Saskatchewan and Canada for their vacation in 2009.”
