Ice & Fire Carnival to be part of Torch Relay Event
November 12, 2009
It's now official! We shared our plans for the 2010 edition of the Carnival with the media today at a City Hall.
The success of this upcoming edition and our ability to make the Carnival all it can be for artists, Carnival partners and participants hinges our our ability to attract new sponsors in the next few weeks. We are pleased to report that our list of sponsor is growing longer every day, a sample of which included as of this morning: SaskEnergy, CTV, the Leader-Post, Greystone Managed Investments, CAA Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Canadian Heritage and the City of Regina Arts Commission, just to name a few.
One of our key means to raise extra funds is the sale of our Official Carnival Candles, available starting this afternoon at the three CAA Saskatchewan stores in Regina:
Regina North
200 Albert Street
Regina South
4528 Albert Street South
Regina East
2510 East Quance Street
In addition, the candles should also be available tomorrow at:
Crocus & Ivy
3420 Hill Ave
All proceeds from candle sales will go to the Carnival. The candle cost $3.00 each or a box of 6 for $15.00.
Lastly, please find below the text of the press release issued at today's media launch by the City of Regina:
Ice & Fire Carnival to be part of Torch Relay Event
Following a year of hibernation and reflection, The 5th Annual Ice & Fire Carnival will return as part of the Regina Olympic Torch Relay Event taking place in Regina on Saturday, January 9th, 2010.
The Ice & Fire Carnival features a unique celebration of Saskatchewan winter culture. Produced by New Dance Horizons in partnership with Great Excursions, The Dunlop Art Gallery, Sâkêwêwak Artists’ Collective and Neutral Ground in conjunction with the City of Regina, the 5th Annual Ice & Fire Carnival pays homage to the history of playing in snow.
With the City of Regina’s 2010 Vancouver Olympic Torch Relay Event just around the corner, the Carnival will introduce some new ideas and approaches to winter fun not yet charted on the world map. Led by a team of artists, architects, engineers, scientists, builders and individuals who have thought and played deeply in the snow, the carnival features an eclectic platform of live contemporary and traditional arts including dance, a processional performance, storytelling, snow sculptures and an outdoor performance arena known as the Tangorena.
The Carnival will be held Saturday, January 9th and Sunday January10th in the Rider Practice Field.
